Clients Steve & Robyn Johnston Oakhurst Deepwater Winning the Inaugural New England Wether trial conducted at Glen Innes, run at the DPIs Ag station for the years 2012 to 2015 with Oakhurst wethers cutting over 8 kilos of skirted fleeces in the 2014 season shearing.

  • "Maisters Swamp" has formed a heavy cutting ewe based stud with distinct family sheep & wool types comprising of Ultrafines, Superfines, Fine wools, Finemediums ,within both horned and poll sheep, these families are kept separate from each other but importantly they compliment each other by being one pure bloodline(Merryville).Which increases the prepotency of the bloodlines characteristics such as increased heavy woolcuts and wool quality improvements. We believe at Maisters Swamp that by not continually introducing outside genetic sources especially those not in line with our parent bloodline (Merryville),will allow our clients and other woolgrowers stable sheep genetics which will breed predictable and prepotent outcomes.

  • This is one reason woolgrowers continually have trouble making marked gains in both woolcuts and wool quality as only hybrid vigour can be gained from genetics purchased from studs who continually introduce genetics from all different sources or who over feed their ram lambs and younger rams with unlimited self feeders which give woolgrowers unreasonable expectations, and no real prepotent sustainable gains

  • 2017 Stud ewe shearing averages:

  • 18.0 micron @ 6.0kg average across all families.

  • So at Maisters Swamp we believe in commercial realities which our clients know are both industry leading and most importantly repeatable.

  • 2017 3 year old flock wethers shearing averages where 7.5 kg woolcut @ 17.5 micron, which is why Maisters Swamp genetics compare so well against other studs and bloodlines at local and other major fleece shows with clients winning wether trials and fleece shows
